"It all started in my second year of the MBO Automotive Engineering"

Hamza Dogu  - Intern & Working Student

Big passion for cars and the automotive industry that Hamza does have. In the end, it was not difficult for him to find an internship company. Partly due to his interest and family members already working at DAF Trucks, Hamza chose DAF.

The beginning
Hamza: "It all started in my second year of the MBO Automotive Engineering. This internship is mainly about gaining knowledge and experience in the business. My brother had been working at DAF for a couple of years and this is how I came into contact with DAF. I found a nice assignment on the DAF website, where all internship assignments are listed. After an interview I was able to start my first internship at the Research Center. Within this department they are developing the new DAF trucks, the prototypes. From day one I immediately felt I was part of the team. The team consisted mainly of experienced employees. That was great, because it allowed me to learn a lot.

My experience at the Research Center
What I found the coolest thing, during my internship at the Research Center, was the then secret New Generation DAF. So I was working on trucks that were not even on the market yet. These trucks had to be tested. One sunny Friday morning I got to ride along with my internship supervisor in the new, then still camouflaged DAF truck. That was the first time the XG was tested outside the DAF premises. I even saw people taking pictures of the truck and us. That was also very cool!

Graduating at the Engine Test Center
Two years later, I was looking for a graduation internship. School recommended not to do this at the same company where you worked as an intern. But DAF is so big that that doesn't apply to DAF, I thought. I looked on the DAF website to see if there was another vacancy available. A few days later after my application, I was contacted and able to do my graduation at the Engine Test Center. Just like at the Research Center, I immediately had a good click with my supervisor. I am looking forward to work as a graduate soon.

Side job at DAF
My graduate internship hasn't started yet, but I am already working at DAF. I have also had a part-time job at DAF for a few months now. As a student, I previously worked as a team leader for a delivery company. Here I was surrounded by different people and cultures. Now I have the same at DAF. On Friday afternoons I work in the Truck Factory, so that I can gain even more experience within DAF and earn extra money.

Developing myself
For me it is very important at DAF that I can learn and develop myself. In a company with so much dynamism and variation, I enjoy coming to work or graduating every day. A company where everyone feels at home. I am looking forward to what the future brings!
