AB Texel puts 1,000th New Generation DAF into service
Demonstration of complete trust in quality and efficiency
Logistic service provider AB Texel from has put its 1,000th New Generation DAF into service: a DAF XF 350 Electric, the ‘International Truck of the Year 2026’. The 4x2 tractor with five battery packs is one of a series of ten electric DAF trucks ordered by the Dutch company. The order demonstrates AB Texel’s complete trust in the quality and efficiency of DAF’s New Generation trucks, in which the company covers tens of millions of kilometres each year.
The 1,000th New Generation DAF was delivered to the headquarters of the logistics company on the Dutch island of Texel.
100 years
AB Texel is a major player in agricultural, food and special transport. Founded in 1925 on the island of Texel as a forage transporter, over the past 100 years it has grown to become one of the leading logistics service providers in Western Europe, with an extensive fleet and specializations in agricultural, feed, food, and special transport. Today, the company has 26 branches throughout Europe and a workforce of 3,200 employees. The fleet consists of 1,875 vehicles, the majority of which are DAF trucks. One thousand of those are New Generation DAFs.
International Truck of the Year 2026
The fleet of New Generation DAF trucks at AB Texel consists of XD, XF, XG and XG+ models with both 4x2 and 6x2 tractor and rigid chassis. The vehicles’ cabs have set the industry standard with regard to driver comfort and safety, thanks in part to their unparalleled direct and indirect vision. The aerodynamic design ensures minimal air resistance and, in combination with the modern powertrain, the lowest levels of fuel consumption. The New Generation DAF XD and XF Electric, which were voted ‘International Truck of the Year 2026’ last month, also boast these features.
Range of over 500 kilometres
The DAF XF 350 Electric tractor recently put into service by AB Texel is equipped with a PACCAR EX-D2 electric motor with a capacity of 350 kW (480 pk) and a torque of 2.400 Nm. The five battery packs have a total capacity of 525 kWh and can facilitate a range of over 500 zero-emission kilometres, depending on usage.
Conscious choice
“That our 1,000th New Generation DAF is an electric vehicle was a conscious choice,” says Dennis Wetenkamp, CEO of AB Texel. “The fact that the trucks can accommodate a GCW of 50 tonnes was an important factor in our decision to acquire the DAF XF Electric. About 80 to 90 per cent of our work is agriculture-related and with this DAF XF Electric, we aim to gain more insights into how electric vehicles can perform this work. The future of transport is going to be partly electric in any event. That’s why we have also installed our own charging points in Deventer and Heerenveen, with another one due to be introduced in the south of the Netherlands.”
