The Computable Awards are among the most influential ICT awards in Europe, with individual category awards presented to companies, projects and individuals that have stood out from the crowd in the past year by developing ground-breaking innovations.

The 3D DAF Truck Configurator allows customers to design a truck online that best meets their requirements for each specific application. Any conceivable truck and chassis variants can be configured using the online tool, including every factory option imaginable. In addition, the 3D DAF Truck Configurator allows customers to view the exact arrangement of components such as the exhaust gas after-treatment system, fuel tanks and battery boxes.

Direct control
As the virtual truck can be rotated through 360 degrees during configuration, it is possible to check immediately whether the chassis and cab variant, along with any options, is the ideal choice for its intended application and its bodywork. The feature is particularly useful to truck bodybuilders, allowing them to see whether selected components have been correctly installed. The complete vehicle specification can be shared with the truck bodybuilder directly from the 3D DAF Truck Configurator.

Cooperation with our partners

The 3D DAF Truck Configurator was developed in close collaboration with a number of DAF Trucks’ major partners. The CAD source files, for example, were managed by Siemens Teamcenter. One of DAF's suppliers, Kisters, converted these source files into lifelike images, while Valtech developed the front end of the configurator. Atos was responsible for system integration, Incentro for adding the features for bodybuilders and—last but not least—the virtual reality app was developed by ISAAC.

Nomination for the Computable Awards 2018
The DAF 3D DAF Truck Configurator has been nominated thanks to the innovative and unique way in which it helps customers design their vehicle to their exacting requirements using the very latest technology. This approach facilitates the online process, from the drawing-up of truck specifications to delivery to the customer – a first in the truck industry.
