Job description
Do you enjoy working with data, taking initiative and finding out what really works? Then this internship is for you.
As an intern within the Diagnostics Development team, you will develop a standardized process and methodology for estimating the effort required to develop, test, and deliver off-board diagnostic features. Analysing the available data on diagnostic features is a big part of this. This isn't a matter of following a fixed recipe. You will design your own approach, experiment, learn from trial and error and keep improving the process and methodology until it delivers qualitative estimates.
Once you know what works, you'll turn it into a clear standard process: a step-by-step guide that explains exactly which steps, analyses, and inputs are required to maintain and update the predictions. That way, your work will continue to add value long after your internship ends.
This is a practical, hands-on internship. You'll have your own project and real ownership, so you won't just be following the team around. Along the way, you'll learn a lot about how a large, international organisation works with data every day.
In short you will:
- Analyse historical project data from Azure DevOps and time registration systems (Excel);
- Identify development activities, effort drivers, and patterns within diagnostics projects;
- Translate historical data into standardized calculations for estimating required hours per resource type;
- Improve a methodology for making estimates and predictions;
- Write a clear standard process and step-by-step instructions to go with it;
- Work and align with the data team and other colleagues
Your profile
You are a driven student who loves working with data, especially analysing it. You are also someone who:
- Takes initiative and likes to get things moving yourself;
- Isn't afraid to ask questions. You know that asking is the fastest way to learn;
- Communicates a lot and checks in with colleagues instead of working in isolation;
- Has a practical mindset and likes to see your work actually being used;
- Speaks English well, because our team is diverse and international;
- Is looking for an internship rather than a graduation project;
- Is pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field;
- Preferably has experience with Excel, Power BI, Python, or similar analytical tools;
Department
You'll join the Diagnostics Development team: a diverse, international and relatively young team where you'll quickly feel at home.
We treat you as one of our own. You'll get strong support and guidance, and just like everyone else on the team, you'll be trusted with real responsibility.
The Diagnostics Development department is responsible for the development, testing, and delivery of diagnostic features for DAF vehicles. The team works closely with software developers, testers, and project managers to deliver high-quality diagnostic solutions. To improve project planning and predictability, the department aims to establish a standardized approach for estimating development effort and resource requirements.
We offer
- A look behind the scenes at a large, international organization;
- You get a lot of freedom and responsibility. We are open to your initiatives and depending on the assignment, you will see your results on the work floor;
- An experienced coach and mentor, from whom you can learn a lot and who is ready to help you further;
- An internship allowance of € 375 gross (HBO) or € 450 gross (WO) per month on a full-time basis;
- A travel allowance, if you do not possess a student travel product;
- A housing allowance, if you temporarily rent a room near DAF.
Every intern gets the chance to participate in the Student Event. During this event, you get to meet other interns and find out more about DAF/PACCAR! Curious about how students experience their internship at DAF? Read stories from our former interns here.
Please note: for non-EU students, the internship or graduation project must be part of your study program, and a tripartite agreement signed by the student, employer, and educational institution is required. A government-approved template can be found on the Nuffic website. Standard internship agreement for non-eu-eea students
