Bachelor/Master Internship: Streamlining the software Toolchain

Help DAF Embedded Electronics streamline its Simulink software development workflow by investigating, redesigning, and prototyping alternatives to our complex Rhapsody toolchain. This assignment combines technical systems analysis with cross-departmental stakeholder communication to solve critical inefficiencies

Job description

In our department we make software for 3 different controllers, we do that with Simulink. To connect and manage these models, we currently use a tool called Rhapsody. However, the way Rhapsody is used in our workflow is not optimal. It gives a significant amount of complexity and information bloat, which causes this to be frustrating and inefficient.
There are various opinions within our department on how this issue could be solved. The goal of this assignment is to:

  • Get a clear understanding of how Rhapsody is currently used within our department
  • Analyze why it is used in this way (how did we get here, and why are we still using it this way)
  • Propose potential improvements or alternative solutions (we would like to see proof of concepts for proposed solutions where applicable)

Our department is not the only one using Rhapsody. Several other departments rely on it as part of their workflow, each in a different way, and there are dependencies between these teams. So, an important part of the assignment is also to research how other departments use Rhapsody, communicate with stakeholders, understand the dependencies between these departments, and assess the consequences and risks for DAF if our department were to change or stop using Rhapsody.
This assignment requires technical analysis, research, stakeholder communication, and creative problem‑solving to identify and reduce inefficiencies in our current development process. The topic has a lot of interest across teams and will give us meaningful workflow improvements.
