Job description
As an Embedded Data Logging & Analytics Intern, you are part of the engineering department and responsible for researching, designing, and prototyping a modern vehicle data logging and analysis solution for next‑generation DAF trucks. You will contribute to connected‑vehicle technologies spanning in‑vehicle software, data processing, and optional cloud analytics.
- You will research state‑of‑the‑art automotive data logging and analysis solutions for next‑generation vehicles.
- You will create a feature concept and high‑level architecture for a CAN‑based data logging function for test or field vehicles.
- You will design and implement a CAN data logging prototype in Python or C/C++, including data capture, filtering, decoding, and high‑performance logging.
- You will work with industry‑standard technologies such as CAN FD, SAE J1939, ASAM MDF4, and secure cloud telemetry using MQTT over TLS.
- You will choose one additional technical direction to further deepen the internship scope:
- transition the prototype toward a C/C++ embedded or Linux‑based implementation, or
- apply cloud analytics and machine‑learning techniques for time‑series analysis, anomaly detection, or extracting meaningful vehicle insights.
- You will test and document both the envisioned ideal solution for next‑generation vehicles and the realized prototype implementation.
Your profile
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in ICT, Embedded Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- (work or Internship) Experience: Experience or affinity with embedded software development and automotive or industrial software systems is preferred.
- Other experience: Preferably experience with Python and/or C/C++, CAN‑based communication, and basic data analysis; exposure to machine learning is a plus.
- Language skills: Strong communication skills in English are required; knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
- Competencies: Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, creativity, good planning and organization abilities, and a collaborative mindset.
Department

Together with our colleagues in Renton and Denton we deliver world class engineering in the domains of powertrain controllers and vehicle controllers.
The products developed within PACCAR Electronics are applied on DAF trucks but also in the famous PACCAR brands Kenworth and Peterbilt. Through component sales our products are also used by leading bus and coach manufacturers.
We offer
- A look behind the scenes at a large, international organization;
- You get a lot of freedom and responsibility. We are open to your initiatives and depending on the assignment, you will see your results on the work floor;
- An experienced coach and mentor, from whom you can learn a lot and who is ready to help you further;
