Job description
As a Combustion Engine Engineer intern, you will join the Engine Externals 1 group within the Global Engines division and gain hands-on experience in developing combustion engines. You will work on concrete projects that directly contribute to the development of next-generation engines for the transportation industry.
During your internship, you will mainly support in:
- Developing new and/or improving existing designs in cooperation with internal stakeholders from different departments and external suppliers;
- Initiating and guiding testing activities, reviewing results and starting follow-up activities if needed;
- Analyzing results and making detailed technical proposals;
- The exciting part? You won't just be observing – you'll be actively involved in projects that shape the engines DAF uses worldwide. Your contributions will have real impact on products that are best-in-class in the transportation world.
Your profile
- You are pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related field;
- Starting date: February 2027;
- You are willing to be present in a product development environment and engage with cross-functional teams;
- You are a strong communicator with presentation skills – you'll be sharing your findings and proposals with colleagues and stakeholders;
- You have a problem-solving and result-driven personality – you take initiative and see things through to completion;
- You have a good command of both Dutch and English

Department
Within the Engineering department of the Global PowerTrain Division, Engine External & EAS Hardware is responsible for the hardware development of new engines and after-treatment systems, as well as maintaining in-production products. The division is split into four specialised groups:
- Engine Externals 1
- Engine Externals 2
- Fuel, Air & EGR
- Engine Aftertreatment Hardware
The PACCAR Inc. Global PowerTrain Division is the centre of competence for developing high-class products. In our state-of-the-art testing centre, we develop engine and after-treatment configurations for future regulations. Our engines are best-in-class products in the transportation world, always driven by providing environmentally friendly solutions with best cost-effectiveness and highest reliability for our customers.
