Job description
The HV Power Distribution team at PACCAR Powertrain is looking for a driven, passionate, and highly collaborative Senior Design Engineer to join the team supporting the creation of the next generation of Battery Electric Commercial vehicles.
In addition to our direct component ownership of the power distribution modules, cables and connectors, we take an outsized role in the design of the powertrain system as a whole, owning the architecture, safety concept, and bringing stakeholders across the powertrain and vehicle together.
Technical aspects of the role will touch on power conversion, fusing and circuit protection, safety systems such as isolation monitoring and HVIL, controls and network communication, and pushing the limits of current carrying in vehicles. We are looking for candidates who are technically knowledgeable, have a passion for learning and embody continuous improvement in a highly integrated, collaborative environment.
This position is located at DAF Trucks’ Eindhoven headquarters
The direct supervisor for this position is located in Washington State, USA. The successful candidate for this role is expected to maintain work hours ending no earlier than 18:00 daily, to allow sufficient time overlap with the team in Washington. This role will include substantial virtual collaboration with and occasional travel to PACCAR locations in Washington, Texas and The Netherlands to enable a powertrain supporting the Kenworth, Peterbilt, and DAF vehicles.
Job responsibilities
- Create and refine Technical Requirement Specifications for the electric powertrain system and components using requirements management tools and ensuring full traceability and alignment to meet demanding customer expectations
- Support the integration of ePowertrain components into the vehicle architecture, including managing communication between suppliers and PACCAR stakeholders, defining boundaries of responsibility and resolving interface issues between groups
- Help develop new Corporate Standards appropriate for HV vehicles
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and methods through interaction with universities, national labs and suppliers
- Manage the end-to-end delivery of ePowertrain deliverables to support program milestones
- Drive components through critical quality gates, from definition through start of production
- Manage supplier workload according to PACCAR priorities, ensuring efficient collaboration between external suppliers and internal testing and design teams to accelerate root-cause analysis
- Manage the Engineering Change Request process, including streamlining initiation, stakeholder reviews, and implementation of software updates.
- Lead the quick resolution of design and production issues. Prioritize tickets based on severity (user experience, reliability, safety) and maintain a target resolution lead time
- Provide hands-on commissioning and troubleshooting support at vehicle plants during rollout of new components or systems
