Functiebeschrijving

The intern will work on designing and developing behavioral customer segmentations based on real-world truck and customer data. This project will directly contribute to better product targeting, improved service design, and more effective sales and marketing strategies.

Objective

Create a data-driven segmentation model that identifies distinct customer groups based on:

  • Truck usage patterns (e.g., driving hours, idling, routes, fuel consumption)
  • Digital service adoption (e.g., which in-truck software services are used, frequency, engagement levels)
  • Customer profile attributes (e.g., fleet size, industry, location)
  • Operational behavior (e.g., maintenance habits, uptime performance)

The outcome should help the company tailor offerings, suggest new service bundles, and optimize customer interactions.

 

Key Responsibilities,The intern will:

1. Explore and analyze datasets

  • Clean and preprocess truck telemetry data
  • Examine customer information (fleet size, geography, industry)
  • Understand how various digital services are used

2. Define segmentation variables

  • Identify the most relevant behavioral indicators
  • Select KPIs that meaningfully differentiate customer groups

3. Build segmentation models

  • Apply clustering methods (e.g., k-means, hierarchical clustering)
  • Evaluate and compare segmentation outputs
  • Visualize and interpret emerging customer segments

4. Create actionable segment descriptions

  • Profile each segment (e.g., “High-Tech Power Users”, “Fuel-Efficiency Seekers”)
  • Highlight business implications
  • Suggest opportunities for product, marketing, and sales teams

5. Present insights to stakeholders

  • Prepare a concise presentation of findings
  • Explain methodology, results, and recommendations
  • Provide a roadmap for future data-driven segmentation improvements

 

 

Jouw profiel

  • Academic background in data science, business analytics, marketing analytics, or similar
  • Strong skills in data analysis (Python/R/SQL preferred but not mandatory)
  • Basic understanding of segmentation principles and customer behavior analysis
  • Interest in mobility, logistics, connected vehicles, or digital services
  • Ability to translate data findings into practical business recommendations

Deliverables

  1. Segmentation model (in code or documented methodology)
  2. Segment profiles with clear names, characteristics, and business value
  3. Dashboard or visual report showing segmentation insights
  4. Final presentation for internal stakeholders

Our platform delivers a wide range of digital services directly from the truck such as telematics insights, driver support, predictive maintenance data, and fleet performance tools. With an expanding global customer base, understanding how different customers use their trucks and digital services is crucial for improving our offerings.
