Receives royal honour
“Recognition from my colleagues”
Early in January, Kurt Nielsen retired from DAF Trucks Denmark after a career spanning 42 years. Having started in the spare parts warehouse of the once privately-owned importer, he eventually rose to the position of Parts Manager, with responsibility in recent years for Norway, Sweden and Finland. Kurt was also involved in the implementation of IT systems.
In recognition of his long career at a single employer, Kurt was recently conferred with a royal honour. “Some people probably think it’s very boring working for the same boss for so long, but nothing could be further from the truth,” says Kurt. “In those 42 years I experienced so many new things, no two days were ever the same.”
His colleagues have always been impressed by his long career at DAF Trucks Denmark. “In Denmark, everyone who spends more than forty years working for the same company is eligible for this royal honour,” explains Kurt. “But you can only receive it if your employer nominates you first. To me, the fact that DAF did so is a recognition by my colleagues and the company of what I have meant to them over the past 42 years. And that makes me very proud.”
