LDWS is based on machine vision technology. A camera behind the windscreen is used to track the vehicle’s position relatively to the lane markings. If the vehicle is about to leave its lane at the right-hand or left-hand side, the radio is muted and a distinctive rumble strip sound is given from a speaker at the corresponding side to alert the driver to steer away from that side. Nuisance warnings are prevented by system logic to recognize intentional lane changes.
