DAF Trucks N.V.

Zero Waste to Landfill

Lloyd’s Register confirms 0% dump of waste materials

In the Environmental Policy of DAF Trucks N.V. the following statement is included:

"Continuously prevent, control and improve the environmental effect and the energy efficiency of company activities and the products and services it supplies.”

In connection with this policy, DAF Trucks N.V. has defined as an objective in 2008 to implement zero waste to landfill. This implies that waste of the locations in Eindhoven, St. Oedenrode, Geldrop (NL) and Westerlo (B) will not be used for landfill, but will only be processed using other methods. In 2008, this includes:

  • Recycling and re-use (84,6%)
  • Physical-chemical treatment (6,8%)
  • Incineration with energy recovery (5,6%)
  • Other treatment like composting, pyrolysis, extractive cleaning (3%)

A generally applicable exception concerns special materials like asbestos, for which controlled landfill is the only feasible option based on present legislation and available technology.

The objective ‘zero waste to landfill’ has been realised since 1 October 2008 in consultation with the contractors for waste removal and treatment. End of 2008, Lloyd’s Register has verified the demonstrable implementation of this objective at DAF Trucks N.V. and these contractors. Based on that, Lloyd’s Register has concluded in the above mentioned Statement that this is the case.
